Ashland’s Field of Dreams It’s a story about baseball in a small American city in the 1950s. It’s a story about boys who played the game at a very special place, and the men who coached them, passing along lessons to the boys that would help them to become better men. Perhaps the same story could be told about boys and their coaches in hundreds, maybe thousands of towns, but to the boys who played baseball in Ashland, Kentucky in the 50s, no other place had the magic of CP-1 -- the “big diamond” at Central Park. Those “boys of the 1950s” are now men in their 60s. Their story is told, in their own words, as they reflect on how the baseball experiences of their youth have lasted a lifetime. Cincinnati Reds’ announcer Marty Brennaman narrated the film. Theatrical premier: August 28, 2009. This film has its television debut in October of 2009 statewide on Kentucky Educational Television, and has since run more than 20 times on KET.
A short version of this documentary, titled Dear Baseball: I Love You, was a shown at the 5th Baseball Film Festival at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in October 2010.
